Commercially, Ipsen is not yet present on the hematology market. Leveraging its expertise in protein engineering, the Group has launched a major research programme in hemostasis (blood coagulation).
It is a hereditary genetic disorder that impairs a person’s blood clotting or coagulation. Hemophilia A is caused by a Factor VIII deficiency. Hemophilia B is caused by Factor IX deficiency. Approximately 60% of hemophilia patients have a severe condition, which results in frequent spontaneous bleeding episodes in addition to severe bleeding after injuries.
